`Philip J. Smith NSA (exh.1912-1932)
`The Track to the Farm` c.1920
A charming oil by Nottingham Artist Philip J. Smith showing an archetypal English scene. A farm girl returning home to the farm with a basket of shopping - the dog is nicely portrayed - he looks like he would dearly love to chase the chickens, especially the cockerel on the wall - not allowed! A nice sunny English Summer`s day by the looks of it, probably a Nottinghamshire scene. Excellent bright colour and very nice period gilt gesso frame in excellent condition.
Philip J. Smith exhibited 55 times at the Nottingham Society of Artists between 1912 and 1932. He became an associate member in 1913 and a full member in 1917. Lived in Woodthorpe, Nottinghamshire, and later in Leicestershire.
