Gordon Hales (1916-1997)
` The Town Square - Luton` 1995
A fine oil by well known by well known and collected artist Gordon Hales depicting the town square in Luton in the early evening. Hales lived in nearby Watford and would have known the location well. Modern satin white reverse rebate frame. Dramatic light - really catches the eye.
Gordon Hales was a highly skilled artist in oil, watercolour and pastel. He was born in Matlock, Derbyshire and studied at Leicester College of Art and Northampton School of Art. His favourite subjects were “ships and the sea, the Thames, men at work, the streets of London, the half-light”.
He was a member of the RSMA, an Associate of the RBA, a member of the Langham Sketch Club, Wapping Group of Artists, the Artists’ Society and a founder-member of the London Muster of Artists. He lived and worked for most of his life in Watford, Hertfordshire.
