R.T.Minshull (fl.1866-1885)
`An Evening Tryst`
A lovely watercolour by Victorian genre painter R.T.Minshull depicting a country maiden leaning on a stile and looking expectantly towards the viewer. It is a summer`s evening, and she holds a freshly picked posy of wild flowers, this is not a girl of high status, perhaps a farm worker or servant girl, perhaps awaiting a lover or suitor. Exquisitely painted in fine detail the artist has captured the soft fading light beautifully. Minshull specialised in this kind of subject matter - this is one of the finest I have seen and is in excellent unfaded condition. Ornate gilt frame and slip.
R.T.Minshull was a Victorian genre painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1874-1885. Lived in Liverpool and exhibited 22 times at the Walker Gallery, as well as the Sussex Street galleries and elsewhere. Specialised in paintings of Young women and children, with the occasional landscape.
