Charles Wilkinson (fl.1881-1926)
`A Fenland Cottage` 1919
A lovely tranquil and atmospheric work by Charles Wilkinson depicting an evening scene on the fens. A fisherman returns home in the fading light, while his wife waits to greet him. In the distance is a typical fenland landscape, you can just about make out a windmill on the horizon. In the foreground are some chickens rooting around on the pathway. The painting is in its original gilt mount with handwritten title, and housed in a simple gilt frame which suits the painting well. Signed and dated lower right.
