`Idyllic Afternoon on the River`
Frederick Culver (exh.1890-94)
A lovely Impressionist late Victorian oil by Frederick Culver who was well known for his river paintings, especially of the Thames. I would imagine this is a River Thames scene, although untitled. The couple are taking a leisurely boat ride, while the lady trails her hand in the water. A very decorative painting with a nice sunny and relaxed atmosphere. The painting has been relined and restored and is in excellent bright condition, housed in a fine period Art Nouveau frame.
Frederick Culver was a London artist who exhibited between 1890-94 at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Oils, and the Royal Society of British Artists.
