George Hodgson (1847-1921) was a painter mainly in watercolour, many of coastal scenes and places of interest around the country. He was the son of a Nottingham braid manufacturer. He was closely involved with the Nottingham Society of Artists, which was of some importance in Victorian times.He became an associate in 1885, Hon.sec 1882, Council member 1887-9 and  Vice-President 1908-1917. Exhibited 4 works at the Royal Academy, 2 at the RBA and 184 at the NSA. Lived in Ruddington near Nottingham.
